Big Dave's Big Gift
David's Writings
Throughout his struggle with lymphoma, David found comfort in writing down his thoughts. He shared his writings on his first web site, and now we have them posted here. We hope you find comfort in his wisdom and that you are inspired by his words.

God's Plan

Look, when I was younger.
I used to wonder.
Why I had to cry when it thundered.
Looked to the sky, wondered why all this hunger.
Had taken my life, all this strife that I'm under.
Hurt me so bad, like a knife was up under.
My soul cuttin holes, every night I just suffer.
Askin God why, He replies this is nothin.
I gave you My son, and His life, that was somethin
You won't understand till you're right where I want you.
He asked me to follow him. I replied that I want to.
Be his servant in the world, he said serpents will taunt you.
But I really don't fear them,  so maybe I ought to.
Spread all my strength and belief to these people.
I get sick and tired of this cancer, these needles.
Are gettin too crazy, but I don't hate you, I need you.
I believe in what you say. No matter what, I'll never leave you

This is God's plan, so leave it in God's hands.
Believe and you shall receive the things in which God plans.
This is God's plan, so leave it in God's hands.
Believe and you shall receive the things in which God plans.
This is God's plan, so leave it in God's hands.
Believe and you shall receive the things in which God plans.
This is God's plan, so leave it in God's hands.
Believe and you shall receive the things in which God plans

• A note from David about "God's Plan"

I sent this song to J.J. Redick (Duke Basketball '06) on Easter and this is what he responded with. My point is, that sometimes we don't realize just how many people we touch by the little things we do. Even the smallest things...

David,
I have to be honest- I am very impressed with your song! Thank you so much for sharing that with me- it gave me chills. It illustrates your battle and your struggle to explain God's plan. But it also describes the internal conflict many of us have on fully relying and submitting to God's plan. I love that the song ends with a clear message of hope. It's beautiful, man. The riches, joys, struggles, and lows of this world are nothing compared to the glory of His Kingdom in heaven. God bless you, brother- you are in my prayers.
