Kids with HEART

Cartooning Activity One:  Click here for on-line step-by-step drawing lessons with Mark Kistler. Show or explain something you learned on your Kids with HEART slide show! (We are currently seeking permission to link to this site.)

Cartooning Activity Two: Take a survey of the most popular cartoons and post the results on your slide show. What do people say makes them entertaining?

Cartooning Activity Three: Try creating an original cartoon character.

Productive Thinking

Think of lots of ideas.

Think of different kinds of ideas.

Think of unusual ideas.

Add to your ideas to make them better.

What will your character look like? What different expressions will it have? What will be its name? How old will it be? Where and when will it exist? What personality and attitude will it have? Who will be its friends and family members? What has already happened in its life? What life challenges will it face? What lessons will your character learn?

After you have practiced sketching your character, draw it on a blank piece of 8" x 11 1/2" white paper. Make sure your lines are crisp and clean. Scan your drawing of your character into the computer. Copy and paste it into your slide show!

Cartooning Activity Four: Use your cartoon character to create a cartoon strip of several frames. Then follow the same directions as given in Activity Three.
